BW Henderson Electrical carried out the electrical fit-out for Te Karaka Station & Lodge, a lodge on a working station at Waikaretu, inland from Port Waikato. We were engaged by main contractor Pukekohe Builders for the lodge build, and have worked directly for the station on the wider site since.
The lodge fit-out alone ran to more than 850 hours on site. The scope covered power and lighting throughout the lodge, mains installation, and the mechanical side including bathroom extract fans. We also ran cabling for exterior lighting and ducting for communications, so the site could be extended later without reopening finished work. The property has its own generation, and we supplied and installed the generator along with the low-voltage mains, later extending the generator exhaust as the site developed. A separate tiny home on the station was wired as its own job. Our EWRB-registered electricians worked to Master Electricians Quality Assured standards and backed the job with our workmanship guarantee. Every circuit was tested and certified before handover. Since the main build finished we have stayed on as the station’s electrician. That has included new circuits for refrigeration, a septic pump, generator fault-finding, hot water in the staff accommodation and power out to a tiny house. On a rural property this far from town, an electrician who already knows the switchboard and the generator saves a great deal of time. Port Waikato and Waikaretu sit outside the area we usually cover, but a project of this size and length is worth the run. This is a good example of the rural and off-grid end of our commercial electrical work.
