Master Electricians – Workmanship Guarantee

Master Electricians Quality Assured members offer a $20,000 workmanship guarantee, providing consumers with added peace of mind and safeguarding the quality of their electrical work.

This guarantee is a core feature of the Master Electricians brand, and only our members in New Zealand can provide such a high level of assurance. Master Electricians will review claims related to workmanship for residential prescribed electrical work completed by a member, with a claim period of up to 12 months from either the completion date of the contract or the date on the Certificate of Compliance (CoC), whichever is later.

If you have any concerns, it is recommended to first discuss them with the electrical contractor involved.

General Terms and Conditions

The Guarantee covers:

  • Work performed by the original contractor only
  • Labour costs and replacement materials, up to $20,000 (including GST) for work completed after January 1, 2017. For work completed before this date, the coverage is up to $10,000 (including GST).
  • Residential projects only
  • Member workmanship, which must be corrected by either the original contractor or an alternative member, as determined solely by Master Electricians.

The Guarantee does not cover:

  • Unpaid contracts, pricing, or payment disputes
  • Claims where additional work, alterations, or attempts at remedial action are made without the original contractor’s knowledge and consent
  • Issues typically covered by household insurance, professional indemnity, or public liability insurance held by the member, or other forms of insurance
  • Disputes under the Construction Contracts Act 2002
  • Claims that have already been submitted to statutory bodies, as they are subject to legal processes
  • Appliance repair work.

Lodging a Claim

Claims under the Guarantee must be made within 12 months from either the date of contract completion or the date on the Certificate of Compliance (CoC), whichever is later. Submit claims to Master Electricians, PO Box 12434, Wellington 6144. Claims will be acknowledged within five working days of receipt.

Summary of the Claim Process:

  1. Consumer submits a formal claim
  2. Master Electricians informs the member and reviews the claim
  3. If accepted, an assessor is appointed
  4. Assessor arranges inspection and site meeting
  5. Inspection report is shared with Master Electricians, the claimant, and the member
  6. If the claim is upheld, remedial work is performed
